...waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Titus 2:13-14, ESV

We all too often wonder what it is that God is calling us to do.  We contemplate and prayerfully consider how God would use us for His glory.  And why not?  I understand that I am limited in my understanding concerning the greatness of God.  I understand that who I am is not who I ought to be.  I realize that I fail, far too often, to recognize the blessings of God in my life.  At times, I choose to willfully disobey what He has commanded I do.  I look at myself and wonder how God would choose to love me – to save me – to use me for His glory.

In the book of Titus, God speaks to the sound doctrine of preaching Christ crucified for the sins of the world, and He speaks of the salvation that has appeared because of His good grace.  In verse 13, God explains that believers – those who have been born-again – are waiting for our blessed hope in Christ Jesus when He will appear as He returns to call His children home.  Verse 14 goes on to say that Jesus gave Himself to redeem us and purify us that we would be classified as 1) God’s people (His possession) and 2) zealous for good works.  If we are claiming that we belong to God (that we are born-again and covered by the blood of Christ – that we are children of the One, True, Living King – that we have been purchased with a price – that we have a relationship with the Father through the Son) then we must be a people who are zealous (enthusiastic, passionate, fervent, eager) for good works.

What is God calling you to?  He is calling you to be His possession, and He is calling you to be about His business – zealous for good works right where you are.  He may move you, change your career-path, and lead you to places you’d never thought you go, but regardless of where He has you and what He has you doing the call on your life is to be zealous for the good works for which you were created in Christ Jesus in which to walk (Eph. 2:10).  And He has given you all you need to do so (2 Peter 1:3).

This month there is a special way you can serve the Lord by serving others.  Our annual Fall Festival will take place the last Sunday evening of the month.  We have the opportunity to welcome onto our campus people the Lord loves and for whom He died.  Consider how you will serve during this time of outreach and fellowship.  This month stay committed to being Friendly, Faithful, and Focused, and zealous for the good works which bring glory to the Lord!

May The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.  2 Cor. 13:14, ESV
